Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) is a battery-powered device that works by heating liquid into an aerosol, which you then inhale into your lungs. That aerosol is often called ‘vapour’, and inhaling it from an e-cigarette is known as ‘vaping’.
The liquid used in e-cigarettes may or may not contain nicotine, but will have other harmful chemicals that scientists are unaware of their long term effects, especially when they are heated up. Example: a vape heats up to approx 350 degree celcius to get the liquid into a gas property. Liquid used in e-cigarettes comes in a range of flavours, such as fruit, chocolate and fairy floss. E-cigarettes are often shaped and coloured to look like cigarettes, cigars or cigarillos. They can also come in other shapes and colours, and can look like other everyday items such as pens or or USB's. These are all marketing ploys to get the younger generation into vaping.

The effects of E-cigarettes and their full health impacts are not yet known. Potential dangers of e-cigarettes include:
|
The safety of e-cigarettes cannot be guaranteed. The Tobacco Act 2016 was amended to regulate all e-cigarettes in the same way as tobacco products. The Cancer Council Australia and the Heart Foundation Australia both discourage the use of e-cigarettes. They are concerned about the increasing use, because the short and long-term health risks of e-cigarettes are still unknown.
